Local Boots For Local People
A new Scarpa-designed range of boots for the British foot is clumping your way

Scarpa importers, The Mountain Boot Company, are launching a new
range of boots in the UK under the brand name 'Contour'.
Think local boots for local people. The range of five models is
targeted specifically at UK walkers with 'specially constructed on
purpose designed lasts to suit the 'wider British foot' with
cushioned soles that facilitate a natural walking motion'.
The boots have been developed by the Scarpa design team, using
principles and features developed over 50 years and more, and will be
produced in a new Scarpa-owned factory in Rumania. They're not,
however, Scarpa boots and will use non-Vibram, own-brand sole units,
though the uppers will utilise - quote - 'the finest lightweight,
high quality leathers and materials.'
A good analogy might be the VW-Audi Group of car makers where the
same basic technology filters down from VW through to Skoda. Reading
between the lines, the new boots are aimed at the middle market
vacated by Neebee and Hawkins in the UK for reasonably priced boots
aimed at walkers who stick to moors, hills, dales and country paths
rather than mountains.
If that's you, a country walker with wide, British feet and a
taste for high quality leather at a sub-£100 price, the range of
five boots will be in the shops early next year. Piccies to follow
soon.
