Magic Mountain Hits The Web

Check out the Mountain Equipment factory shop's clearance offers on line

Glossop-based Mountain Equipment and Ron Hill clearance outlet Magic Mountain now has a web site where you can check the latest offers in the shop.

The site - www.magic-mountain.co.uk - is very basic, but potentially useful. Bear in mind that as well as reduced end of line and clearance stock, there's also a continuous stream of seconds - many with only minor or cosmetic faults - plus ex-test gear and some truly bizarre prototypes in odd colours. There are often ME sleeping bags at around half full retail price.

Well worth a visit if you happen to be passing through Glossop on the way to one of the Peak's many (what?) stately homes, caffs or numerous antique shops this spring. It's at the bottom of the big car park which is first left on the way out of Glossop on the Hayfield Road aka Victoria Street.

Of tangential interest is Glossop's new continental-style caff 'Barista' on Victoria Street itself. A riot of stainless stell and white walls in a quite un-Glossop way, it sells strange London-ish things like latte and other coffees as well as baguettes and pastries baked on the premises. Good coffee, but the walls need painting a warm shade of yellow - at the moment it's a tad arctic.

And then there's Glossop's very own tapas restaurant. Ooops, hang on, I must be bored.

Just a quickee for anyone not privileged to read the Glossop Chronicle: Magic Mountain's spring sale is on this coming weekend - 28-29 April. Saturday 9.00 - 5.00, Sunday 10.00 - 2.00 (not Halifax).

MM is effectively Mountain Equipment and Ron Hill's factory shop with a branch in Glossop and one in Halifax also.

Details from their web site: http://www.magic-mountain.co.uk.

There's also a mail order sale with 200 per-cent - sorry, that should have been 20 per-cent, though 200 would be nice - off anything ordered between 30 April and 12 May at full price, ie not seconds or special offers.

There's usually some great bargains to be had, so if you're in the area, drop by. If you want a decent 21 Century coffe experience, try the new Barrista cafe on Victoria Street, just before you turn into the carpark where MM is situated.

Jon
I say 'thanks for the tip off'
My wife says ' keep your info to yourself in future!'
Just got back from doing the whole glossop experience, braving a blizzard and snow covered road over the snake pass.
Got a Annapurna down jacket, £130 down from £220 and a Classic dragon 750g down bag £95 down from £160. If I think really hard I could probably justify both purchases.
As I was being dragged from the shop I noticed a 3layer goretex jacket, serious piece of kit, but I didn't see what model. It was a second, reduced from £270 to £100 ! now thats a reduction.
We then had the pastries and coffee at the coffee shop, very civilised, if a little blue and white.
We did manage to stay out of Hadfields though, according to their board 'makers of the best pies in town'
thanks again
Neil

You're welcome. The cafe needs painting yellow with an orangey sort of tint to warm it up...
