Marmot's Sub-200g Waterproof

Super light, super breathable and priced under £100 - too good to be true?

A bit of a taste for you in the form of the new Marmot Mica jacket which is made from their rather impressive 2.5-layer MemBrain Strata fabric.

When we reviewed the Marmot Aegis recently we were highly impressed with the breathability of the fabric but slightly disappointed with the design of the jacket. The stripped-down, minimalist Mica, with its claimed 185-gramme weight and £90 price tag could be a better bet we thought.

Marmot Mica Jacket

Well, we now have a Mica on test and the medium-sized version we have tips the scales at a genuine and very impressive 190 grammes. It packs down small as well and even though the hood peak is still floppy, it's less of an issue for a lightweight jacket than with a more general use one.

We'll be giving it a thrashing over the next few weeks and reporting back, but if the Mica's fabric performs as well as it's claimed to, you're looking at a combination of ultra-light weight and eVent-type levels of breathability for under £100. Adventure racers and lightweight freaks ona budget take note...

yep likewise - the uncovered zip looks like it could be a possible weak point?
