Memory-Map
has launched its own Digital
Map Shop (DMS) which allows users to select and download
customised areas of digital mapping to their PC, laptop or pocket PC.
 Customers
need to open an account on the site and buy Top-Up vouchers which are
then redeemable against the exact map areas they want. It's basically a
three-part process:
1. Choose the type of map - scale and country.
2. Draw around the area you want to download.
3. Download to a PC or Pocket PC, the correct amount is automatically
deducted from your account.
Apart from the immediacy of the process, which allows you to, say, but
mapping on a Friday afternoon for use over the weekend, it also means
that you only buy the maps you actually need.
Home And Away
At the moment, mapping available includes complete OS GB coverage at
both Landranger and Explorer scales plus areas of Europe, America and
Australia. You can also download aerial photography.
You can download mapping areas as small as 100 km square, it says here,
in any shape you want. Pennine Way anyone?
