Memory-Map
now has a free app
for the Apple iPhone
running alongside its paid-for app which has been available for a
couple of weeks.
Whereas the full
app includes map credits which you can use to
purchase OS and other compatible mapping from Memory-Map's Digital Map
Shop, the free version has all the same features, but comes without
credits.
There's a Topo Sample Pack which will allow you to try the features on
the app for fit and then, if you choose, purchase further mapping from
the Digital Map Shop. If you do that, you can also opt for a cheaper
mobile licence option, though this will only allow use of the mapping
on your phone and not on your PC. Possibly a good option for Mac users
then.
We've been using the full app for a couple of weeks now - review to
follow - and we're impressed with the map reproduction and speed of
zooming and scrolling. It's not as sophisticated as ViewRanger on a
smart phone or a full version of Memory-Map, but it does most of the
basics you'd expect.
Also imminent - it's about to start beta testing apparently - is an
Anquet iPhone app. Watch out for out round-up soon.
You can download the free and paid for apps direct from the Apple app
store. More information at www.memory-map.co.uk
