There's a new contender in the
Ordnance
Survey-compatible GPS market with the launch of the
Memory-Map Adventurer 2800
which the mapping software specialists claim 'consistently outperforms
its rivals. Here's the video promo:
The new unit was launched at the London Cycle Show last week and so far
we've not see it in the flesh, but it looks like an interesting bit of
kit. It's claimed to be weatherproof and rugged and uses a 2.9" touch
screen interface.
It's the second time Memory-Map has dipped a toe in the GPS market,
they previously cooperated with satnav company Road Angel to produce a
car-based unit adapted for outdoor use and running Memory-Map software.
The new Adventurer 2800 comes with selected British National Park OS
maps in 1:50,000
scale loaded on a microSD card and 10,000km2 of MM Digital Map Shop
credits, so you can choose your own areas of mapping anywhere in the
UK. It can be used with any maps from the Memory Map V5 range.
The unit, you won't be surprised to know, includes full Memory Map PC
software with OS mapping allowing easy compatibility with your PC to
plan and transfer routes, tracks and waypoints backwards and forwards
between computer and GPS unit. The battery is rechargeable and comes
with both mains and car charger
and a lanyard and belt clip are also included.
The unit has a state of the art, 50-channel GPS receiver,
weighs 135 grammes including battery - Satmap Active 10 is 225 grammes,
but watch this space - has a microSD card slot for loading mapping from
the Memory-Map range and costs
£250
including the selected National Parks maps and Digital Map Shop Credits.
We're not sure when it's available for purchase and we don't know about
battery life, but we'll let you know just as soon as we can find out
more.
