High street outdoor retailer Millets has launched an e-commerce enabled web site at www.millets.co.uk.

The site's not particularly sophisticated - in that you need to wade through pages ten at a time to see, for example, all of the 58 different waterproofs in stock, but you can also select products by brand and category, which makes things easier if you know exactly what you're after.

Essential outdoor gear from Millets

The product range is aimed more at the budget enthusiast end the market rather than hard-core technical mountaineers, but there's still a range of well known brands like Karrimor and Berghaus alongside the likes of Peter Storm and Eurohike.

To be honest though, we were very taken with the top of the range Gelert outdoor picnic basket with four place settings, insulated food compartments, twin wine holders, placcy wine glasses and even the essential picnic rug.

Now if only we could find someone to carry it round for us...

Like a good little researcher / tester I tried out this *fabulous* new site.

First problem - in order to narrow down the search I can specify a manufacturer from a drop-down menu. There are dozens of names in there and they are NOT in alphabetical order...

...'did I see Sprayway there, dunno, will have to trawl through it all again, still not sure if I saw it, gonna give up...'

See what you think.

Where are the wellies? Otherwise not a bad site. At least they give weights and measurements where relevant, something a lot of the posher retailers don't seem to think is important.

hmmmm...no more choice and I don't think any cheaper than the High Street shop in town.
