Pile/Pertex moves on plus lots more interesting new outdoors kit from the north east brand.
It's early days, but just before Christmas, we popped up to see the
guys at
Montane
for a quick look at their new kit. We've already told you about the
stuff that's
new
for this winter 2009, but we also got a
sneak preview of next year's
winter 2010 kit including some really neat new stuff and
we thought you might enjoy a quick whisk through a couple of
developments even if you won't be seeing them for six months or so...
There's so much really neat-looking new stuff in the range
that we think this is a real return to form for the North Eastern
lightweight specialists. See also their interesting new limited edition
Mountain
Rescue Promo range.
Fireball Smock -
£100
Classic Montane this, extremely light and minimalist. It's
an ultra-lightweight insulated smock with a 40g
Primaloft Eco synthetic fill and a Pertex Quantum outer and inner.
Simple zip, elasticated cuffs and hem and reflective strips. It weighs
just 240 grammes. Think: windproof with a little insulation added.
Sabretooth Jacket -
£150
The Sabretooth gets a complete overhaul for next winter
using Polartec's new lightweight Power Shield fabric - very weather
protective but also very breathable. It blocks 98% of the wind rather
than 100% and the pay-off is improved breathability.
It's a light - 520-grammes - hooded soft shell top with a drop-tail,
roll-away hood with wired peak and volume adjuster. Looks good.
Terra XT Salopettes -
£130
The new Terra XT bibs are made from
silicone-encapsulated EPIC fabric which while not waterproof
is very, very water resistant as well as very breathable. The
inner fabric is a micro-suede and mesh combo to add warmth. You also
get 3/4 side-zips, Cordura-reinforced seat, knee and kick patches and
an internal snow gaiter. Look like an excellent winter legwear option.
Resolute Smock -
£150
Montane's Extreme pile/Pertex kit has been motoring along unchanged for
a while now and works brilliantly in cold, damp. Scottish-type
conditions, but the new Resolute moves things on again combining teh
same pile inner with a much more water-resistant EPIC outer fabric
and a neater 'Active cut'.
It has a full helmet hood and forearms and
shoulders reinforced with PU-backed Cordura fabric for durability and
water resistance plus Montane's generous Cross Vent system. There's
also a removable crotch strap to prevent things from riding up in use...
Think Extreme Smock on steroids and you won't be far wrong. Tougher and
more water resistant and looking mean and lean in moody black. Nice to
see pile/Pertex being developed. It's a great system, that is often
overlooked.
Women's Terra Pants
Revised - £70
The women's version of the popular Terra Pant gets a complete makeover
for next winter to give a much improved fit for the female form. A
curved reinforcement panel across the seat is reckoned to give a more
flattering, less masculine fit, knee panels are articulated and there's
a 'high lift crotch'. Reinforcements are tough Codura fabric.
And more...
There's plenty more in the range as well
including a heavier weight SportWool top - the Bionic Zip-neck
- with neat flat seam construction and a mix of 40% merino
and 60% polyester for winter baselayer use. Looks and feels lovely and
will retail for £60.
All looking very good indeed and available from late summer 2010. We're
particularly looking forward to trying the new Resolute Smock.
