Montane New For 2010

New waterproof jackets, fleece and softshell, plus new eVent for autumn 2009.

Latest in our line of spring 2010 gear previews are the guys from lightweight kit specialist brand Montane which has new waterproof shell jackets, soft shells and more in the pipeline.

The Atomic DT Stretch Jacket is a light - 295 gramme - waterproof jacket made from Stretch DT fabric, which as you've probably guessed features built-in stretch. The jacket features an off-set front zip for chin comfort, water-resistant pit-zips and mesh-lined, venting pockets for extra cooling.

Note the pretty orange zips, which apparently were dead hard to sort out, mainly because no-one's used that colour before, so YKK had to make them from scratch.

There's no new eVent in the range for spring 2010, but there is one due out this autumn 2009 in the shape of the eVent Evolution Jacket. It's effectively a lighter replacement for the Super-Fly jacket which after last year's redesign, takes a well-earned rest.

The Evolution uses the same fabric as the Super-Fly on the shoulders and hips, but the main body fabric is lighter to give a weight saving of a claimed 50g or so at around 425 grammes. It also has a drop-tail, roll-away helmet hood - this has been redesigned so the collar sits higher to protect more of the face - and two mesh-vented hand-warmer pockets along with a smaller zipped chest pocket. Out around September 2009.

Back to 2010 and there's a new hooded soft shell called the Dyno Jacket. Made fromo Pertex Equilibrium Eco fabric and available in both men's and women's versions, it's wind and water resistant and very high wicking with neat, semi-casual looks.

The Eco tag on the fabric means it's recyclable through a scheme called Eco Circle - the fabric itself is 100 per-cent recycled polyester made from post-consumer and post-industrial waste, often from fibre products like workwear.

Then, once the garment has done its outdoors duty and worn out, it can be shipped back to Japan in empty containers and made into brand new garments all over again.

Also made from Eco Circle fabric is the new Tundra Jacket, a neat-looking, high-loft fleece top with a difference, it's actually a lightweight microfleece - normally high loft stuff tends to be mid-weight. Full-length zip, hand-warmer pockets and Lycra cuffs complete the spec.

What's with all the horrible neon zips! I hope Montane isn't going down the Haglofs route of '70's glam rock wear. Some of us users are older than 14.

Have a heart Mike, they've gone to a lot of trouble:

"Note the pretty orange zips, which apparently were dead hard to sort out, mainly because no-one's used that colour before, so YKK had to make them from scratch."

Does beg the question......

I wonder if Montane have pinched Haglofs designers though. I've found this picture of next summers backpacking gear.

Maybe Paramo will jump on the bandwagon next.
