Montane Web Site Revamped Plus New Kit Taster

Montane's web site has a new look for the New Year, plus a brief preview of what's coming your way in just a month or so's time when it's erm, summer?

The nice people at Montane - Northumberland's finest featherlite clothing brand and makers of the award-winning Superfly Jacket - have been hard at work redesigning their web site.

The new version is nicely uncomplicated and has full details of their current range of kit plus a worldwide dealer locator to help you find a Montane retailer, yes, we know it's stating the obvious.

We were interested to note that alongside their established 'Adventure Lite', 'Warm and Lite' and so on, categories, there's a new one called Montane Female. To our eternal shame, we hadn't realised that the eVENT Superfly jacket - one of the best lightweight waterproofs we've ever used and winner of a 2004 OUTDOORSmagic reader award - is now available in a women's-specific version.

We actually saw one on the hoof in the Lakes at the weekend and it's an extremely neat, tailored, woman-friendly fit, that means female OMers can look good and function just as efficiently as us blokes. There are also women's versions of the Terra Pants, the Dyno Soft-Shell and the Lite-Speed Jacket.

Coming Soon

It's still Winter '05 in the weird world of gear manufacturing, but Spring / Summer '06 starts soon and you can expect to see Montane's latest kit some time around March.

We've already given you a scoop preview of the new eVENT Soft-Shell Jacket - right - which we've been very impressed with so far, but here are a few tasters of what else you can expect.

Montane hasn't really done baselayers, but the new Bionic Tee-Shirt changes all that. It's made from Sportwool, which combines a merino inner layer for comfort against the skin and anti-pong properties, with polyester fibres for effective wicking and evaporation of moisture. We've used Macpac's version of this and it works well.

There's something called the Sonic Short, which is a Tactel all-rounder with an integral mesh brief that's intended for anything from running to swimming via kiting or kayaking and looks interesting.

On the waterproof front, the excellent Superfly is joined by an even lighter eVENT shell, the Air Jacket. It's around 75 grammes lighter than big brother at a claimed 350 grammes, but still has a roll-away hood with wired peak, beard guard, chest pocket and more. There's also an Air Pant which is reckoned to be the lightest eVENT waterproof pant in the world at a claimed 250 grammes for a medium.

There's more too, but we'll try to bring you some detailed information and piccies a bit nearer the time.

You can catch the new Montane web site at www.montane.co.uk

Like the new site - just one thing though, can't find any mention of sizes in the product pages - would be useful especially for the women's kit (you know how fussy they are about that sort of thing).

Yes sizes are pretty essential, particularly when from experience their XL is equivalent to a lot of manufacturers L. Maybe it's only us larger blokes that have a problem though...

Yes, sizing would be good.

I personally love the look of the range-finally proper womens stuff. The tops don't look too short either, which is an eternal problem.

All I need is to save some money to afford them...
