Myo Battery Box Mystery Solved...

If you read our first impressions of Petzl's new Myo 3 head torch - it combines halogen and LED lights in a single, neatly designed package, you'll have noticed one quibble: the battery box is a bit of a hassle to open.

We took our test torch up to the Lakes at the weekend and threw it at a number of OM members to see how they got on - the verdict: it's a sod to open. Except that actually it's not. The problem is that the box has an arrow on it pointing diagonally upwards at an angle of around 45 degrees from the horizontal, which purports to be the direction of pull needed to remove the top of the box. Pull in the direction of the arrow though and you're more likely to strain a finger tendon than open the box.

Unfortunately, to activate the spring catch that holds the lid in place, you actually need to pull the lid horizontally away from the catch, ie: sideways. The pic shows how the mechanism works. Do that and the lid easily parts company with the rest of the battery box allowing quick and easy access to the four AA cells.

So, if you've bought a Myo 3 - the Myo 5 is due out in late July by the way - and can't open the battery box, ignore the arrow and pull horizonatally instead. Trust us, it works. For our first impressions of the Myo3 see the links at the bottom of this article.
