In the latest of our 2010 previews, here's a sneak look at what's new from Berghaus for spring 2010 including walking boots, shoes, new packs and waterproof shell jackets.

New Footwear

Berghaus has just re-designed the top-selling Explorer boot and for 2010, it's joined by the Explorer Trail Low trail-wallking shoe complete with Gore-Tex lining and a redesigned Optistud sole unit which is designed to work better on hard surfaces as well as on the hard ground where the current version excels thanks to a revised, softer, rubber compound.

The family resemblance is pretty obvious. Meanwhile, the Pro Rush series, which we're big fans of here on OM has had a proper redesign for 2010 with another uprated Opti-Stud unit with better mud-shedding in the heel area and improved grip on harder ground and an integrated toe-cap.

Berghaus Pro Rush Mid 2010

It's also slightly heavier, but more rugged and with completely different looks to the current version. More of a trekking boot than before say Berghaus. There are men's and women's Low and Mid - above - versions with Gore-Tex liners plus a Low without a waterproof liner.

New Clothes

The clothing range gets some tweaking as well - for 2010, Berghaus has a mammoth 25 different base-layer styles including the new Tec Tee Advanced, a more technical version of the Tec Tee available in three fits - 'technical', 'active' and 'relaxed' so you can have the same high-wicking, silver ion-treated fabric in a fit of your choice.

Berghaus Paclite Dru jacket

Also making a first appearance was a new addition to the Extrem range of technical shells in the form of the Dru - above - a 399-gramme technnical climbing waterproof jacket made from Gore-Tex Paclite Stretch. It's fully loaded with an excellent, helmet-swallowing, wired-peak Raptor hood, pit-zips and strategically placed stretch panels to improve fit and, in certain circumstances, mobility.

Also new is the Sella, a lightweight windproof softshell made from Gore Windstopper Light. It's a simple sort of fella, but the interesting bit is just how light the fabric is with an internal scrim that's visually similar to the stuff on the inside of Pro Shell waterproof fabric.

New Packs

Last but not least, there's a new range of Freeflow Pro, ventilated-back packs. Sizes range from 20 litres right up to a weekend-friendly 50 litres. The larger versions get a rigid frame sheet for more stable, comfortable carrying and they also have a restyle with exposed, perforated EVA foam in the shoulder-straps brazenly exposed...

399 g for a Paclite? Even with a few stretch panels that's pretty heavy. the LIM Ozone is a lot less than that, and it's a pro shell.

Packs look fairly snazzy, though. Wonder how they'll carry.

Packs, as you say, look snazzy

The footwear don't look too cheery though.
