The nice Swedish people at Haglofs - think understated but really effective clothing and equipment - have one or two nice new things scheduled for 2005.

Topo

For a start there's a new top of the range expedition sac called the Topo which the company says is the 'best pack we have ever created'. Using the WiB - Weight In Balance - back system, the pack is multiadjustable and incorporates a 'metal gadget' that adjusts both the length and width of the shoulder strap spacing allowing the pack to fit pretty much anyone.

The hip-belt can be shaped to fit the wearer's hips and has utilises a pivot construction with central supension for maximum comfort and minimal friction, it says here. Complete with bellows side pockets and a large front pocket the pack comes in 60+15, 75+15 and 90+20 sizes.

Weights aren't exactly low at 3600, 3800 and 4000 grammes respectively, though you'll be getting bombproof Haglofs build and prices range from £200 to £250.

Paclite Lighter...

The LIM Ultimate Paclite Jacket, already one of the lightest shells out there, gets a further overhaul slashing weight to a mere 247 grammes. There's also a new hood, a thinner, more flexible water-resistant main zip, new sleeve design with better articulation and better mobility all round. The company has also used the new Gore Microtape to reduce weight and up overall breathability. Price will be £140. Not bad for one of the lightest waterproof shells in the world.

There's also a new Fusion Jacket which combines Paclite with 3-layer XCR in high wear areas for increased durability much like the Mountain Equipment Matrix. It's also available in women's fit and price is set to be around £;190.
