New From Wild Country
A scoop look at the latest 2005 tents from the guys at Wild Country including a brand new, full-blown geodesic that's in Quasar territory but at a more affordable price :-)

We gave you a sneak preview of a couple of neat new tents from
Terra Nova last week - see this
article - but sister company Wild Country also has a couple of
surprises up its tent-making sleeve for 2005...
New Label For Trisar
First, the good old Trisar three-pole semi-geodesic is back
as a Wild Country rather than Terra Nova tent with a subtle
re-design. The forward pole has been moved forward so the classic
two-man tent now has a roomier vestibule for comfortable cooking and
kit storage.
Venting front and back has been improved, the pole geometry has
been changed so that the rear of the tent is more stable, alloy poles
are now attached to the inside of the fly-sheet to up stability and
last but not least, the main door gets a porch window so you check
the weather without unzipping the outer door. Neat.
Price of the improved Trisar will be around £179 with the
minimum weight a backpackable two-person 2.9 kilos.
New Geodesic
Completely new is a full geodesic tent aimed at users who'd
probably like a Quasar but bailt at the price. The Q2 is the
strongest tent in the Wild Country range and is a proper, four-pole
geodesic that'll look instantly familiar.
Features include twin entrances and porches complete with window,
elliptical inner doors with mesh insect screen, continuous pole
sleeves and a roomy innder which Wild Country say should cater for
taller people.
With a minimum weight of 4.1 kilos, you're looking at a tent which
is slightly lighter than a standard Quasar, but will retail at around
£259 instead of the Quasar's £400 making it a good option
for anyone looking for a tough mountain tent on a tight budget. The
materials used aren't to quite such a high specification as those on
the Terra Nova range, but the basic structure should still be
bombproof.
Other stuff
Other changes include a New Llanos upgraded version of the Llanos
with more porch space and stability plus the Venturi tunnel tents in
three sizes get an ingenious 'Pull'n'Vent' air circulation system,
which are basically great big vents that you can open remotely using
cunning drawcords and struts. Genius :-)
