New Ice Boot From Salomon
Salomon throw their latest offering into the specialist winter boot menagerie

Salomon's newest winter boot is another stage in the trend towards
ever more specialised footwear with butch names.
The Pro Ice is aimed straight at the specialist ice climbing
market, in the same way as, say, Scarpa's Freney. We've only seen a
picture so far, but Salomon says that the boot is 'designed to let
new school enthusiasts explore their limits'.

The new Salomon Pro Ice - butch
sole unit, flexible upper for
serious ice and mixed routes:
£179.95
|
That means a heel counter and front lip to take step-in crampons,
rigid sole, sticky rand and a one-pull asymmetric lacing system. The
upper is 2.6 mm 'mountain leather' with thinsulate insulation.
There's also something called a 'tongue energiser', which is
designed to improve forefoot fit rather than make your tongue go all
tingly and the asymmetric lacing and construction should mean new
school ankle flexibility making the boot more sensitive and flexible
than traditional rigid winter boots.
There's also a nicer line in mixed metaphors - we're promised
'total freedome of movement for creating a new line up or down the
pitch.' David Beckham anyone?
Price is £179.95 and you can get retailer information either
by phoning 0800 389 4350 or from the weird and wonderful Salomon web
site at www.salomonsports.com.
So far there's no information on the Pro Ice on the site, but it's
worth a visit just to select the winter 2001 section and play the
daft Flash game...
