'Hey gringo, you want to know what new rucksack Señor
Karrimor make up at the beeg hacienda?' Yes, thanks to a well-placed
mole at the Lancashire rucksack hot-spot, we can show you what's
coming your way from Karrimor next month, November.
New Alpiniste Light - £85 RRP

|
New Alpine Lite, one third less
weight than equivalent
45+10 Alpiniste due to lighter fabrics
|
Karrimor has updated the standard Alpiniste range for 2001 with
all the S-model sacks getting a new Emergency Equipment Store Pocket,
whatever that is, but the big news is the all new Alpiniste Light
which weighs around one third less than the equivalent 45 plus 10
Alpiniste.
Features are pretty much the same as the Alpiniste S, with the
Supercool back system and Fformat frame gubbins, but the Light uses
KS-N420 DRS diamond ripstop fabric with Cordura 1000 D base and front
reinforcements. Weight is claimed to be just 1300 grammes for the 40
+ 15 litre pack - standard Alpiniste S is 1900g. Should be ideal for
alpine use.
Hot Sacks Reborn

|

|
|
New Hot Earth - £75 - replaces existing
Alpiniste 40
|
Hot Rock - 30-litre lightweight
for rock
climbers
|
The good old 'Hots' range gets a revival with the current Hot 30
giving way to new Hot Earth (40 litres), Hot Ice (30 litres) and Hot
Rock (30 litre) packs. The Earth and the Ice are similar to the
Alpiniste range in construction and looks - the Hot Earth replaces
the Alpiniste 40 - but the Hot Rock is an altogether lighter beast
aimed at rock climbers (duhhh...) and weighing in at 800g, 200g less
than the current Hot 30. Confused? You will be.
New Active Sacks

|
New Hydro 15 is one of a rnage of new
active
rucksacks and sports a hydration system
pocket
|
Karrimor has new sacks called the Victory, Hydro and Hydro
Lite aimed at adventure racers, mountain bikers and, er, adrenaline
sports. The Hydros - surprise, surprise - have pockets for hydration
systems, while they all use CoolMax body contact fabric where the
packs contact the body. There's also a new version of the traditional
KIMM sack, the Marathon, which is listed at 50g heavier than the
existing model.
One, the Victory uses something called Shoulder Flex: 'An
elasticated hinge joint between the sac and harness allows the
shoulder straps to automatically tilt sideways to match the wearer's
shoulder angle' it says here.
And The Rest
Lots of other detail improvements: the Jaguar and Independence
trekking packs now have soemthing called Direct Linkage between the
frame and hip-belt for greater comfort with big loads. Meanwhile the
traditional daysacs have some improvements and there are new packs in
the range.
Thank you and good night.
