New multi-sport helmet from Salewa

3-in-one climbing, cycling, running lid launched

German mountain equipment manufacturers Salewa have come up with what, if it works, could be a great piece of gear for those multi-sporters among us who don’t like having to shell out on more than one bonce-protector.

The new Helium is a helmet designed for climbing, cycling and paddling. Salewa have used a new one-piece “In Mould” technology, which they say has allowed them to create a super-light lid with the side-impact protection needed to pass the European CEN standards for all three activities.

The Helium uses a ‘Nexus’ quick-adjust buckle and has several ventilation slats. It also has 3 fixture points for securing your head torch. Weighing in at 250 grammes it’s a pretty light helmet, and the price of £50 isn’t too heavy, especially when you consider it’s multi-use.

As for how it performs, you’ll have wait til we’ve got our mitts on one to try out. It seems like a good idea, though it’ll be interesting to see whether the side ventilation system is adequate for hard riding.
