New Outdoors Show In 2002

At last, a consumer show for walkers and climbers

Bike shows, golf shows, fishing shows, surfing shows, but up till now, no outdoors show. Not fair is it?

The good news is that all that looks set to change next year with the launch of The Outdoors Show, which is scheduled to take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from 15-17 March 2002.

It's going to be aimed squarely at us - walkers and climbers - but also stuff like mountain biking, watersports and adventure travel. You'll be able to see the latest gear, some before it's even in the shops and try it out in a gear-testing area, and rumours are that there'll be a huge tent city (hopefully without the dreadful 'This Is The Winter of our Discount Tents' signs that usually go with these things...)

For full details see this preview the show website which has full details. We'll see you there.

What do you reckon, will you go to an outdoors show costing a tenner a head at the NEC? And what else would you want to see there apart from the gear testing facilities, indoor adventure race circuit, all the obvious outdoor organisations and so on?

How about an indoor ice-climbing wall??? I'd love to have a go and try that, with all the gear supplied to try it out before I have to buy the stuff. (Yes, I am a cheapskate!)

As for would I go? Well, come next March I'll be living about 30 minutes away from the NEC so I'll probably pop in for a look see.

All the top stuff. Area's to try out equipment, like the ice climbing wall (like in Tiso, in Glasgow... they have an ice wall), and a high pressure shower, to trry the jackets. That kind of thing. But I think I'll be there no matter if they do that or not.
