We're big fans of the Primus Eta range of heat-exchanger based stoves. They're nicely designed and highly effective, so we jumped at the chance to have a closer look at the new, uprated version of the EtaExpress, a neat, solo-friendly canister-mounted cooking system which packs down into a neat, pan-sized package for carrying.

Above are the main constituents, from top left: sieve-equipped pan lid, new design pan with improved heat exchanger, clip-on, magnetic wind shield, plastic pot and the stove itself, which can also be used without the accompanying bits to save weight.

Total weight is 488 grammes, so a little more than either Primus's own EtaSolo or a JetBoil - both around the 400g mark - but arguably more versatile than either of those.
