Salomon's new for 2012 X Ukltra GTX shoe - trail running heritage and styling, but very definitely more of a walking shoe.

The latest OM site review is a first look at Salomon's new for 2012 X Ultra GTX shoe. At first glance it looks like a trail-running sort of beast, but dig a bit deeper and you realise it's more of a running-styled, sturdy but lightweight trail-walking machine.

There's a combination of Salomon's distinctive and proven fit and features with a burlier underfoot unit and, a welcome one this, a much deeper lugged Contragrip outsole which - whisper it - may actually mean confident grip on the sort of softer terrain we expect in the UK.

A mud-friendly Salomon sole? Maybe... Check out the full first look for more details and images.
