Show News Fresh from Princeton Tec is the latest high-powered 3-watt LED headtorch with performance that should rival the market leaders from Petzl and Silva. Looks interesting.

High-powered LEDs are the coming thing in the bright world of
headtorches with the Silva L1 and Petzl Myo and Tikka XPs upping the
stakes this year, now it looks like they're about to get some serious
competition in the form of the new Princeton Tec Apex.
Out in the next month or so, the Apex, like Silva's L1 uses a
3-watt high-powered LED to produce a seriously bright beam for
distance work. Whitby, who import the brand into the UK, say that it
produces as much or more light than the Myo XP using its boost
feature, but a heat sink built into the light housing means that it
won't overheat - the Myo can only run boost for 15 seconds or so.
It also features four low-powered LEDs which are side-mounted for
less demanding general use with better power consumption, which
should make it a very versatile torch.
At a smidgeon under £80, the Apex isn't exactly cheap, but if
it works as well as previous Princeton Tec torches we've tried, it
should be up there with the market leaders.
