Modular alpine duo for extreme versatility plus more coming soon from Paramo.
In addition to the new pithily named
Paramo Velez Adventure Light Smock,
which we've
already
told you about, Paramo has some other new kit
for spring 2009 and we thought you'd appreciate a rapid run through of
what's going to arriving in the shops early next year.
It's An Analogy Duo...
Arguably the most interesting development is a double act
comprising the new
Summit
Hoodie and the
Fuera
Ascent Windproof Jacket. The Summit is a fleece-type
insulation garment, whereas the Fuera Ascent is a windproof.
They can both be used alone, but the neat point is that they've been
designed to be used together, when the combination - as with other
Paramo windproof / fleece combos - creates a weatherproof system using
the Nikwax Analogy principle.
It's not just fabric compatibility either. Both the proofed fleece
layer and the outer shell have massive matched front of arm zipped
vents for efficient ventilation even when using a harness or pack.
Pocket are placed to be harness friendly and both have two-way main
zips and a drop tail. In addition, both have a full helmet-compatible
hood with the main Fuera hood sporting a wired visor and a more
sophisticated adjustment system.
Paramo says that the combination makes for a versatile system that can
cope with conditions from -20° to +20°C and rival their
one-piece Aspira tops. Looks interesting. The Fuera will retail for
£80 and the Summit Hoodie should be around the £100
mark.
Cambia Sport Range
Paramo's reversible baselayer range has been updated as
well. The idea is that one way round they're cooling and high wicking,
the other way round, they're slightly warmer, but still high wicking.
We can't tell the difference with the baselayers, though some reckon
they can.
Anyway, the new version is a close-fitting, two-tone zip-neck shirt
complete with a zip garage. Retail price once available in
early 2009 will be £30.
In other news, the Trek and Travel range offers more legwear options
with short, cropped and full-length versions of the bth men;s and
women's cargo pants in Paramo's near windproof and very sun-resistant
- UFP50+ - Parameta A fabric. Full length trousers come in a
variety of leg lengths.
Last But Not Least...
We're shallow, we admit it, but we liked this newish
colour scheme for the Aspira Smock. It just sort of works :-)

The 2009 kit above will be available in early 2009, probably February
or March.
Discuss this story
ok so it's new for next spring so i was perhaps a little pre-emptive in going to the shop in london for a look. they didn't have it! i was assured that rob will be made rather aware of this so they can get some in. someone had phoned asking, i visited and so did lucky jim! hello jim.
but onto more important matters. jim kindly allowed me to try on his cioch jacket. mmm! very, very nice indeed. i'm seriously impressed.
then i bumped into jim again in ellis brigham! where i ended up buying another osprey vector 75l wheelie bag.

You need to talk to someone about this Parky!
On a more serious note, when will Paramo get to grips with colour schemes? That hoodie and windproof combo looks good. But, why is the top half red, and the bottom black? It just doesn't work!
All red or all black would be far better. Big blocks of different colours are usually found on childrens clothing!
