In the summer edition of Forbes magazine, Polartec fabric was nominated Best Sports Fabric, which is a pretty good accolade in an industry where fabric innovation is a major focus.

Forbes said, "... in the early 1980s, Malden Mills in Massachusetts introduced Polartec fleece, and alfresco adventure got comfy. A lightweight synthetic knit fiber, Polartec is best known for its ability to wick moisture away from the skin and its high warmth-to-weight ratio ..."

Things have moved on a bit in the Polartec world since then and now there's over 150 Polartec fabrics, but perhaps the most novel addition to the range is the Polartec® Heat technology - the battery-heated fabric featured in the Met5 jacket from The North Face.
