The latest development from Swedish outdoor equipment specialists Primus, is
the EtaPackLite, a
packable stove system that boasts a claimed efficiency rate of 80 per-cent.
The stove is the smallest and lightest of Primus's
award-winning EtaPower series of stoves and, and, says Primus raises
the efficiency bar from the usual 40 to 50 per-cent you'd expect from a
conventional gas stove to an impressive 80 per-cent.
'Eta' is the Greek letter which also stands for 'efficiency rate'. It's
not so much about a fast boil time, but simply burning less fuel
overall, which means carrying less and reducing both costs and
environmental impact. It also means minimising the weight and pack size
of the stove.
The new EtaPackLite is an integrated two-person cooking system that uses
a sophisticated heat exchanger to maximise efficiency. The unit
consists of a base-plate with burner and piezo igniter, a windscreen
with adjustable width, a 1.2 litre pot with tough, non-stick Titanium
coating and heat exchanger on the bottom, an inner pot made from
hygienic Polypropylene, a lid that can also be used as a colander, plus
a Polypropylene cover that protects the heat exchanger during transport
and can also be used as a plate.
The whole thing packs down neatly into the pot and still leaves space
for a 100g LP gas cartridge, price in the UK is £75.

"an inner pot made from hygienic Polypropylene" That sounds rather like one of my CoLab entries of last year (which was just a little tongue-in-cheek...). I've often wondered why so few pan manufacturers don't offer custom PP cookwear (e.g. for cozy cooking), so that was the CoLab entry, along with a custom meths bottle to fit in a pan.
