Sleeping bag designer explains 2010 range plus new bag microsite launches.

We told you about Rab's impressive new range of 2010 sleeping bags last week and now there's not only a new Rab sleeping bag site explaining the technical background of the new range, but also a YouTube video showing a Rab designer explaining how Rab has redesigned its bags.

If you've got five minutes to spare, kick back, make a cup of tea and tune in to designer Matt Nalder's Kiwi designer tones - it  is strangely restful. You even get to see inside the hallowed sleeping bag stuffing room at Rab HQ .

And as we said, there's also a new Rab sleeping bag micro-site which you can find at www.equipuk.com/rab_sleepingbags/

Having been fractionally rude about the initial info they put on line for these initially, I guess I should apologise slightly.

This new website has a truly commendable amount of technical info on it - detailed sizing too. (and the bags were EN tested. Good.).

Interesting to see how big a difference the endurance outer makes to the ratings.

Yep, I had a really interesting few hours with Rab's Neil Mcadie the other week talking about bags, ratings, construction and yes, the outer fabrics too. If you missed our preview of the new bags, the lighter the fabric, the easier it is for the down to loft, so the more efficient it is, but... coated fabrics like Endurance actually make the bag slightly warmer because there's less heat loss through the outer shell.

The down side to that, apart from a slight weight penalty, is that a bag with an Endurance outer needs airing properly after every night's use to allow trapped moisture to evaporate whereas a bag with, say, a Quantum outer is inherently more breathable and allows vapour to escape during use, so only needs occasional airing.

New range does look very, very nice and clearly a lot of research and thought has gone into the construction and design of the latest bags.
