Our new consumer review section is really taken off. There are already over 160 user reviews up with more coming in all the time.

What's more, you could win on of Petzl's brilliant little LED head torches - see test - if you submit the top review of the month. Plus there's a mystery prize for the 200th review submitted to the site and with the weather as dire as it has been, we reckon it won't be long till it's won.

How does it work?

Simple, for a full explanation, check this earlier OUTDOORSmagic article, but briefly, it's your chance to rate and slate the kit you use on the hills regularly and to help create a valuable resource for other OUTDOORSmagic members.

It doesn't mean the end of our own site reviews, we'll still be doing them, and as we get back into the hills after foot and mouth, you'll see a steady stream appearing on OUTDOORSmagic. But site testers can only use individual items for so long - it's real world users who've worn the same boots, packs and clothing for week after week who know how gear performs in the long term and that's what the review system is all about.

To check it out and rate your own favourite kit just click here. And remember, even if a product isn't listed yet, you can add it using the 'New Product' link. It'll take slightly longer to appear on the site, but it will get there eventually.

Like we said, the new review section is designed to complement our site reviews and in time will be linked to them.
