Sausage Secrets Unveiled

What are we talking about?

WL Gore are going to be releasing their new Windstopper Next 2 Skin technology in Europe early next year.

Outdoor companies including Mountain Equipment and the North Face are due to debut the windproof base-layer fabric in the UK following extensive development work in both Europe and the Unted States.

Gore operatives spilled the beans after
offers of beer and sausages

Over traditional Bavarian sausages and beer, Gore operatives let slip a few vital details about the new fabric. Apparently some 15,000 test hours and between 50 and 100 prototype garments have gone into the new fabric. It is claimed to allow as much exercise heat loss as a conventional base layer, while being windproof and being significantly more breathable than a base layer / wind shell combination.

The upshot, they say is that the new fabric will keep you 'up to 50 per-cent warmer in windy conditions' and provide superior moisture management. They also took the opportunity to savage the highly wind-resistant '95-per-cent windproof fabrics from rivals saying that though the result may be comfortable, you will still lose significant body heat as a result compared to a truly windproof garment.

But does it work? Check out our user experiences direct from Bayern...
