Scarpa Manta Updated For Winter 2008
Iconic winter boot gets GSB crampon compatibility, reduced weight and better cushioning.

Scarpa's iconic Manta winter boot has had a makeover
for this winter 2008 making it both lighter, more cushioned underfoot
and compatible with the GSB crampon system.
The boot is approximately 9 per-cent lighter than previously
thanks to a series of changes to the sole unit. The existing steel
shank is replaced by a fibreglass-based mid-sole unit which is just
as stiff, but significantly lighter.

Underfoot there's more PU for a slightly softer ride and up top, a
full rubber rand to keep the uppers well protected. Functionally,
says Scarpa, the boot remains identical and is still graded B2 and
well capable of - for example - climbing Mont Blanc on a good day and
easier Scottish winter routes.

Finally the 'Manta GSB' label denotes that the boot is compatible
with GSB crampons which use a horizontal slot in the toe of the sole
unit to locate a metal prong instead of either a front cradle or bale
arrangement. The system is reckoned to be pretty much idiot proof and
very secure in use.
The new Manta GSB is in the shops shortly and available in both
men's and women's versions.
