There's a new addition to Scarpa's X-Terrain range of multi-activity shoes in the shape of the Vortex GTX, a suede and fabric-uppered trail shoe in both men's and women's versions.
Handily, for autumn/winter use, the Vortex GTX has a Gore-Tex XCR waterproof liner, along with a combination suede and fabric upper. There's reinforcement at toe and heel as well, so the odd rubble stub shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Underfoot is a Vibram Dynatech2 sole unit, which Scarpa says incorporates enough cushioning for extended walks on harder surfaces and the shoe gets more generous lasting than the sleek Scarpa Epic that we've been using for summer hill walking.
Weight at a claimed 920g for a pair of size 42s is slightly more than the Epic as well – 770g if you were wondering – but then the Epic has rather more running DNA, the Vortex is a more of a full-on walking shoe, though you could equally well use it for stomping around town or walking the dog.
Price is £100 or £99.99 depending on your retailer's pricing policy, for both men's a women's versions.

Very similar to Enigmas.

The Axis seems to have disappeared from their lineup now... Hmmm. Quick trawl of online bargain bins reveals they're now half price at Rock and Run. And much as I recommend trying on in person, I've enough p[airs of various shoes and boots in Scarpa 43 to take a punt now my Heliums are a few years old and the soles are getting a bit flat. Pete.
