Scottish Access Code Site Goes Live

New Scottish access legislation won't take effect until some time in 2005, but the web site detailing rights under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code is now up and running.

The web site outlining the new Scottish access rights, which will take effect in 2005, is now live.

The Scottish Outdoor Access Code implements the measures of the Land Reform Act and will come into effect 'some time' next year, with the exact date due to be announced soon. The new code will give people 'a statutory right of responsible access' to the land in Scotland.

To be honest, the new site at www.outdooraccess-scotland.com is a bit of a nightmare when it comes to finding straightforward information and actually finding a brief summary of the new code took us about ten minutes - it's under 'Access Legislation - Key Features' but really needs to be more prominent. There are also a lot of downloadable .doc files, when PDFs would surely have been better?

For a much more user friendly look at what's going on, we suggest you take a look at the Mountaineering Council of Scotland web site at www.mountaineering-scotland.org.uk which combines some basic information with useful links.

More information when we find a resource we can actually understand ;-)

Looking at the Key Features Document, in the list of excluded land what does "non-residential buildings and associated land" mean? Does it include all farmland, what about shooting estates (i.e. most of the country)?
