Show News Not necessarily the newest or most innovative stuff out there, just a selection of bits and bobs that we took a shine to including cammo head torches and a Sigg sarnie box :-)

Here are few things that helped ward off Horrorgate Syndrome at this year's Harrogate Go Outdoors trade show. They're not necessarily new, important or innovative, they're just things we quite liked...

Silva Cammo Headtorches

Yep, Silva's L-series torches are now available in cammo, ideal for sneaking up on unsuspecting wildlife or for military use. While we're talking Silva torches, when we took an initial look at the L1, we noted an overtight head band that had an instant migraine effect...

The good news is that Silva is aware of the issue and the band is being lengthened to make it more comfortable. As far as we know, there are no plans to change the design of the battery box, which we also found painful, but the new, looser headband may make that less of an issue.

If you've already bought an L-series light and find the band too tight, Silva say they will replace them on request. The light output of the L1 by the way, is incredible and significantly brighter than any other LED torch we've used.

Fleece Jackets You Can't Get...

The lovely Stephanie, doyen of Polartec PR, showed us lots of nice things, but undoubtedly the nicest was this Salewa jacket, which rather frustratingly isn't on sale in the UK. It's made from a wind-resistant but lovely and furry material called Polartec WindPro Hi-Loft, or something like that, and we want one.

Sigg Lunch Box

Apparently this has been around for a while, but we've never encountered it - boo, hiss - which is a shame as it looks like the perfect solution to the perennial outdoor sarnie syndrome dilemma. Made from anodised aluminium, it costs arounbd 15 quid in this Maxi version...

LED Lenser

New on the UK market from the guys at Whitby is a German range of LED hand-held torches called LED Lenser. As you'll guess from the name, the entire range is LED-based, they're in the shops shortly and they look lovely in a very 21st Century sort of sculpted, designed way.

Updated MSR XGK Stove

Another change that somehow passed us by is a complete redesign of the definitive MSR XGK Expedition stove, still the most reliable multi-fueller out there in our experience. Apparently the US military decided they wanted to be able to stow the stove in a mess tin, so it had to be re-designed with a flexible hose between pump and burner.

This in turn meant redesigning the burner to retain stability and the result is this...

Leatherman Knives

Last but not least, the fellas at Leatherman have come up with a whole range of impressively fierce looking knives to complement their existing multitool range. Priced between £34.95 and £90, they're big, chunky, sharp and combine a major league blade with other features like a sprung carabiner come bottle opener, a clip and screwdrivers.

Sorry Jon, but that fleece looks like the top half of a bad fancy dress costume. ;)

Might be high tech, but you wouldn't get me in one mate.

The Sigg boxes are great though :) Had mine for about 18 months now, and I can confirm how well made they are after dropping one from the top of Milestone Buttress and my lunch still surviving.

Must've been a hardy animal you took for lunch if it survived that. Rabbit?
