One for mild camping fans here with the news that Roberts
has launched the first solar-powered digital radio
meaning you can chill out to DAB on the camp site without munching
your way through disposable batteries.
The new 'solarDAB' doesn't actually need to be in the sun to work,
the solar panels up top in conjunction with its rechargeable
batteries will give up to a claimed 27 hours of listening when fully
charged, even when there's no sunshine - did someone mention the
British summer?

Indicators showing icons for solar levels, batery levels and
signal strength should save you from the sound of silence and there
are ten pre-sets for your fave stations. It's also available in the
pretty colours pictured above.
At 672 grammes it's no lightweight solution, which is why we
figure it's ideal for mild-camping, base-camp use. The RRP is
£79.99. And yes, we know that a wind-up DAB radio would
arguably be better for all sorts of reasons, but as far as we know,
there isn't one, yet...

I've got two of the last Freeplay windup radios, and they're not exactly light either you see. Why can't Freeplay do decent ones that a backpacker could easily carry then?
