We recently carried a quick preview
of what's new for 2009 from tent specialists Terra Nova - now we've got
some photos of the tents as well as the new super-lightweight packs,
including the company's new Laser Space 5 lightweight family camping
tent.
New Lightweight Packs
New Packs Ultralightweight
adventure race packs, from left, the 328-gramme Laser 20, the
467-gramme Laser 35 and the Laser 6 lumbar pack. Prices are
£45, £70 and £28 respectively. In the
shops early 2009.
Laser Space 2
Think Laser on stilts, the Terra Nova Laser Space 2 is a much taller
version of the Laser concept complete with a big 3 m/sq porch for
easier kit storage and cooking. Comfortable but still reasonably light
at 2.77 kg.
Laser Space 5
At
a shade over 5 kilos, you might not think of the Laser 5 as
ultra-lightweight, but it's actually an innovative family tent that
sleeps five people in its two sleeping compartments with a central
lobby. It packs surprisingly small as well.
Tarps A Go Go
Terra Nova's also picked up on the trend towards tarp use
with a new range of three tarps due out spring 2009. The 730g Bivi Tarp
- above - is intended as a lightweight three-season shelter and comes
with two poles a mesh inner and waterproof groundsheet.
There's also a simple Shelter Tarp, a 178g, 2.5m x 1.5m rectangle of
lightweight tent fabric that can be deployed any way you see fit using
its eight reinforced eyelets.
Moonlite Bag
The Moonlite is Terra Nova's new, minimalist, waterproof
sleeping bag cover. Weighing in at a claimed 206g, it's
around half the weight of an Alpkit Hunka or Rab's Survival Zone, which
is a significant weight saving. Ideal for tarp use, we'd have thought
particularly given it's pack size of 21cm x 6cm.

I'd be interested in the bug nest that goes with the tarp - hope they'll be selling it separately. Any pics of the new 2 door laser? or specs on the trimmed down, lighter photon?
