Full report from yesterday's flying visit to The North Face in
the not very sunny Lake District tomorrow, but as a taster we thought
you might like a quick look at the
new Point Five waterproof shell jacket which - reading
between the lines - appears to have been designed specifically for use in UK conditions.
Wooohooo... and about time too, you're probably thinking.
The clue is in the name, one of the classic gullies on the Ben. It's
new for this autumn and is a clean-looking, no-nonsense shell jacket
made from three-ply Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric. The jacket gets TNF's
closer, Performance Fit and is part of the Summit Series of high
mountain kit.
Cut looks to be longer than the classic boxy North American climbing
jackets and there are two humungous chest pockets, each capable of
taking an entire library of OS maps, should that be your thing. Cuffs
are Vecro adjustable, there's a hem cord and a helmet-compatible hood.
But the question you're all asking is whether that hood has a decent
peak with sufficient stiffening to cope with Scottish winter
stroppiness. And the answer is... we'll tell you tomorrow....
Price of the Point Five is £250 and it's in the shops now.

I have tried to find this jacket for sale in yellow everywhere online to no avail. Can anyone suggest where else to look? Thanks in advance.

The North Face have several franchise outlet stores dotted around the country where they should have a better than average range of colours. Failing that, any decent stockist will be able to get you one in the colour you want, assuming it's in stock with the EU distributor. They seem like a reasonable piece of kit, but as usual with TNF you pay a 20% premium over equivalent produts purely for the name.
