Three New Jetboil Stoves For 2011

Three smaller, lighter stoves on the way plus a larger capacity pan for greedy snow melters...

New Jetboil Sol - 200cc less, but much lighter.
Zip - left - a minimalist, cheaper stove and the large capacity Sumo pan.

It's some way off yet, but Jetboil has three new smaller stoves on the way, due out early in 2011 along with a larger FluxRing pan which is compatible with Jetboil's lightweight stoves.

Jetboil Sol

Top of the range is the new Jetboil Sol – actually it's a Sol with a dash above the 'o', but we can't work out how to type that, so you'll have to imagine it for now – anyway, it's an ultra-compact cooking system using Jetboil's familiar PCS canister cooking technology.

It's available with an aluminium cooking cup with a weight of 300 grammes or you can splash out for the titanium cup and save an additional 40g with a weight of just 260g.

To put that in perspective, the current version of the PCS weighs 425 grammes, though it has a volume of one liter compared to the Sol's 0.8 liters. Claimed boil time for 0.5 litres of water is identical at 2 minutes for both versions as is the 12 liters of water boiled per 100g Jetpower fuel canister. So basically more of the same, but lighter and smaller.

Jetboil Zip

Also brand new for 2011 is the Jetboil Zip, a minimalist stove with the same 0.8-liter capacity as the new Sol versions, same boil time and fuel use and the same technology, but a weight of 333 grammes, which is hardly extravagant. It's not as pretty as the Zip with its fancy yellow bits and not quite as light, but the advantage should be a cheaper price tag, which seems like a reasonable sort of trade-off.

Jetboil Sumo

Also brand new is the Jetboil Sumo, a larger pan using the FluxRing system which is compatible with Sol, Zip and PSC systems to give larger cooking capacity. At 1.7 liters it should be up to group cooking and faster snow-melting.

The Sumo clips directly onto the top of the stove in place of the standard cooking cup and is also large enough to stow a 230g gas canister and a burner base or a complete Sol or Zip system complete with 100g fuel canister.

It weighs 396 grammes and has standard Jetboil features like a neoprene Cargo Cozy with handle, drink through lid with pour spout and strainer and a bottom cover with doubles as a measuring cup and bowl.

You'll also be able to buy the aluminium and titanium Sol cups individually. They weigh 205g and 170g respectively and are compatible with Sol, Zip Flash and PCS stoves.

Out early in 2011. More details when we have the, current Jetboil information at www.jetboil.com.
