The classic The North
Face Base Camp Duffle has been awarded the prestigious
Editor’s Choice Gold
Award by Backpacker magazine. The award celebrates
enduring kit that has remained largely unchanged for five years or more.
Unbelievably the bombproof expedition duffle was first introduced back
in 1979 making it an improbable 30 years old. Made from Phthalate-free
TPR fabric laminate and designed for travel and hauling, the Duffle is
a firm OM favourite.
Ours has been everywhere from Nepal to the Andes with a lot in between.
The tough fabric is almost unmarked, despite the best efforts of
baggage handlers, rocks and burros and the odd close encounter with
mountain bike chainrings.
Detachable alpine-cut shoulder straps make it easy to lug through airports
and between cars, hotels, hostels and bunk houses. The massive, tough,
YKK zips around the huge panel opening seem nigh on indestructible
despite endless overloading, locking zippers give airport peace of mind
and compression straps keep everything packed down when needed. And the
reinforced base copes nicely with dragging across rocky terrain.
In short it's absolutely bomber and like part of the family - a
familiar and reliable companion on every trip in recent years. The
Duffle is available in five sizes from Mini to XL and just in case it's
not clear, we're big fans.
