Equinox - £300-£380

The Equinox is a scaled-up mountain-friendly group and family tunnel tent that gives loads of space, but retains a robust structure. It's not light – 4300g to 6700g depending on size – but it uses features like TBS and Line-Lok guy-line runners along with the same materials as Vango's full-on mountain tents.

All three models – 250, 350 and 450 sleeping from two to four people – have roomy porches with windows for storage, bad-weather cooking and so on. You wouldn't want to carry it around with you, but as a car-camping, base tent that should cope with proper weather, it looks spot on.
