ViewRanger
has released Ordnance
Survey Mapping of Ireland digital which can be used in
conjunction with ViewRanger software on your smartphone.
It's the first time it's been available for use with the neat on-phone
GPS mapping system and covers the entire Republic of Ireland in
1:50,000 scale. There are, says the company, over 3,000 km of marked
trails around loughs and glens, mountains and moorlands, with
the OSi mapping showing contours, roads, paths and tracks as well as
leisure information such as historic sites, viewpoints, golf
courses and picnic sites.
The sofware also incorporates ViewRanger's Buddy Beacon system, which
helps you to keep track of your mates on the hills and a sports
computer for comparing routes and performance.
"The addition of topographic maps means that every part of Ireland can
now be explored with detailed digital mapping on a
GPS-phone.” Says Hugh Mangan of Ordnance Survey
Ireland (OSi).
As with UK Ordnance Survey mapping, the Irish maps can be selected and
downloaded via the mobile network in map tile form or larger areas can
be purchased direct from the ViewRanger web site. You can even purchase
the whole of Ireland, in mapping form anway, for £120.
