Lecture tours mean prizes, or, erm something like that. Which is a
rather convoluted way of saying that to mark the launch of this
month's Berghaus 'Stories From The Vertical World' lecture
tour, we're giving away a complete set of Berghaus kit to one lucky
OM member.
But first the January lecture tour, which features
Berghaus-sponsored climbers Leo Houlding, and the German brothers
Thomas and Alex Huber.
Who?
Leo Houlding, is of course, probably Britain's best young
climber with numerous, serious climbs to his credit including some
impressive Yosemite ascents, not the least of which was the second
free ascent of El NiƱo on the North America Wall on El
Capitan. He's known as much for the style of his climbing as for the
routes themselves and is renowned as an entertaining and thoughtful
speaker.
It was in Yosemite that Leo first met the Huber brothers, who'd
made the first free ascent of the route says earlier. The Hubers are
perhaps less well known in the UK, but have a phenomenal climbing CV.
Alex Huber will be talking about his free ascent of
'Bellavista' on Cima Ovest, one of the hardest multi-pitch free
routes in the world and one which Alex redpointed in a day.He will
also reflect on his free solo ascent of the 'Direttissima' on Cima
Grande.
Meanwhile, brother Thomas Huber is going to be recalling
his 2001 second ascent of the Ogre in Pakistan. The Ogre was first
climbed by a team including Doug Scott and Chris Bonington and became
notorious for Scott's epic retreat from the mountain with two broken
legs...
