Cocona Fabics
is not only claiming that its new
waterproof material, Cocona Xcellerator, is the most breathable in the
world, but the company is also looking for active outdoors
people to try it out for
free.
Cocona fabrics are based on carbo extracted from coconuts and embedded
into polymers. The carbon is permanently incorporated into the yarn and
fibres of the garment and is claimed to combine excellent moisture
handling, cooling, odour management and UV protection.
The fabric's used in base - see the Sprayway
Tech Tee review - soft shell and mid-layers
already, and can even be combined with merino wool to give a high-tec
hybrid fabric. The latest development is a 100 per-cent waterproof
fabric called Cocona
Xcellerator which combines a PU laminate with an inner
surface containing Cocona and designed to move moisture rapidly away
from the body.
Garments using the fabric will be appearing later this year, but Cocona
is looking for 1,000 outdoor folk to try jackets made from Xcelleratore
right now and report back. If you want to be part of the test team, all
you have to do is head over to www.coconafabrics.com and
fill in the form on the web site, simple.
We've got a test garment on the way as well and we'll let you know how
we get on.
Note:
Although the web site may suggest otherwise, the trial scheme is a
global one and not restricted to US citizens, so if you register your
details, you will be considered.
