Nutritionist Dr Chris Fenn unveils some outdoor food tips to coincide with British Food Fortnight, but Kendal mint cake? Hmmm...
Top
nutritionist Chris Fenn - once of Trail magazine, now more commonly
found gracing the pages of TGO - has come out with six top tips for,
erm, 'wholeseome British food to carry in your rucksac'.
Dubbed the 'Satisfying Six', it's all mixed up with British Food
Fortnight (October 26 - November 10) and the 'Go Walking - for a
healthy life stile (sic.)' - yes, it's the worst pun of the year so
far campaign from Go Outdoors.
So what does Doctor Chris suggest?
• Sandwiches made from wholemeal bread and filled with
traditionally cured ham
• Or as a vegetarian alterntative, fill your sarnie with a
tangy slice of mature British Cheddar plus locally grown organic
tomatoes and salad leaves.
• Homemade scones, spread with a little British organic
butter
• Homemade vegetable soup in your flask, made form organic
British potatoes, carrots turnips and onions.
• Locally grown, organic British apples, pears or plums
• A slice of homemade apple cake made from delicious British
Bramleys
And if you need some instant energy, Dr Chris advocates nibbling
some Kendal mint cake - yukko - or real, handmade, dark
chocolate.
Great stuff, though the speed we cook we'd never get out of the
house... For more information on the Go Walking campaign which is
aimed at getting the soda-sitting, coke-sucking masses our of their
sitting rooms see
