Need an excuse for the weekend as all your mates go tanking off leaving you trailing in their wake?

Sorted then - you could just be 'exercise immune'. No really, according to the New Scientist web site, a very small number of people are actually physiologically wired so that their bodies don't respond to exercise. They don't show any fitness improvements even after structured, intense training and it won't reduce their tendency to develop diseases like diabetes.

"It's negative, but it's true. Some people slog away and don't get any improvement," commented one of the Australian boffins.

Predicatably it's all down to your genes, so if you seem to be getting nowhere fast even after slogging your guts out, you can blame your parents, as usual. Seems like some people are just more trainable than others and if you're one of the unlucky ones, there's not a lot you can do.

To sharpen your excuses further, check out the entire article at the New Scientist web site.
