The Peak Park Ranger service is running a free basic navigation training course in the Peak on Sunday 14 April.

Dubbed 'Map in Hand', the day is based around a walk from Hartington village and, according to Terry Page, the Ranger leading the day:

'Is designed for the absolute beginner. If you have never used a map before to follow a route through the countryside or if you're unsure about where you can and can't go then this course will help you.'

The training walk has an 11.00am start at the bus stop in the centre of Hartington village. The walk will cover about 4.5 miles and take in some of the most beautiful White Peak scenery including Biggin and Wolfscote Dales and will finish in Hartington by 3.30pm.

Maps are provided but you need your own clothing and boots. The day is free but you need to pre-book if you want to go by calling the ranger service at Parsley Hay on 01298 84992.
