It's Monday
again, so to ease the pain of the return to the working week, here's
our regular Monday kit
tip. This week how to melt snow more effectively.
If you're camping in winter or in glaciated terrain then melting snow
and / or ice may be your only feasible source of drinking water. Or
water for that matter. Unfortunately just boshing a load of ice in a
pan and sticking it on a stove is a slow process, to speed things up,
start with an inch or so of hot water in the bottom of the pan then add
snow to it. Keep the lid on the pot for maximum efficiency.
Keep the process rolling by always leaving a reserve of water in the
pan as you add fresh snow and ice, you'll save time and fuel. And of
course, avoid that yellow snow...
If you've got a
killer tip of your own, just drop us a line
and we'll share it with other OUTDOORSmagic readers.
