Birmingham Mountain Film Festival This Week

Birmingham gets mountainy from Thursday with a mix of award-winning films including some of the best from Kendal plus live speakers including Andy Kirkpatrick and Alastair Lee.

A quick last minute heads up for Midlands-based OMers with the news that the Best of Kendal is coming to Birmingham later this week from 25-26 January as part of the Birmingham Mountain Film Festival with loads more besides.

We've already brought you some details of the full programme here, but as a reminder, there are two Kendal slots featuring some of the best films from the 2007 Kendal Mountain Film Festival including:

Kurt Diemberger- K2 GB - with Diemburger talking about the 1986 K2 tragedy which killed Julie Tullis and Alan Rouse.

Asiemut Canada about an epic bike trip from Mongolia to the Bay of Bengal in India.

Cerro Torre - Arca de los Ventos Italy Ermanno Salvaterra finally succeeds in climbing the route controversially claimed by Maestri 47 years ago.

Loads more at the festival as well including the award-winning film E11 following Dave Macleod's ascent of one of the hardest routes in the world, talks and presentations from the likes of Andy Kirkpatrick and Alastair Lee.
