An evening of programmes including Eric Valli's stuning Oscar-nominated film 'Himalaya' filmed entirely in the mountains. Why isn't it on terrestial? :-(

Well, it's actually the day, 50 years on from when Hillary and Tenzing first climbed Everest. And to commemorate the occasion, the BBC has scheduled a whole evening of Everest programmes.

Unfortunately they've stuck them on the backwater of BBC4 - the television channel rather than the radio one - from 8.30 pm onwards. The channel's showing programmes with an Everest theme including a pair of documentaries about the mountain and Eric Valli's stunning Oscar-nominated film 'Himalaya - L'Enfance D'Un Chef'. See previous articles at bottom of page also.

The film was shot entirely in the Himalaya and is reckoned to be superb. So if you have satellite, cable or digital TV, you know what you're doing tonight, if you haven't, best phone round your mates now...
