The Swiss have decided to name all their planes after mountains, honest they have, we've got the entire list for your info-hungry plane spotter types

We're indebted to the American Alpine Club for this snippet -
Swiss airline, erm, Swiss has is going to name all its aircraft after
the country's highest peaks to celebrate the International Year of
Mountains.

To qualify for the long haul fleet, the peak has to be over 4,000
metres in height, while for local services, you can get away with
merely being the highest top in a particular canton.
The first new Airbus A340-300s, due to arrive in summer 2003, will
be given the name "Matterhorn". Other planes will land snappy
monikers like 'Dufourspitze', 'Liskamm', 'Weisshorn' and our fave,
'Parrotspitze'.
And just in case you were wondering, the name 'Eiger' goes to
Airbus A 321, aircraft number HB-IOA - ideal reading matter, The
White Spider by Heinirick Harrer.

Surely only a matter of time before British Airways follows suit
with a host of incomprehensible Scottish peak names taking pride of
place,
