The unmissable and frighteningly funny Andy Kirkpatrick is the speaker at the final Urban Rock Winter Lecture series at the Westway this evening. Don't miss out...
Last call for Andy Kirkpatrick who will be
speaking at the final event of the Urban Rock Winter Lecture Tour at
the Westway Climbing Wall on Wednesday March 26th at 7:30pm, which is tonight.
If you haven't seen Andy in action, then make some space in your life and get down
there. He's definitely by far the most
entertaining climbing speaker in the UK at the moment - his lectures
are pure theatre and not to be missed.
It's hard to believe that the slightly tubby-looking,
bespectacled, round-faced northerner who steps onto the podium is one
of the UK's most resilient and dedicated mountaineers with desperate
ascents in Patagonia, Yosemite and the Alps to his name, but he
is.
Most recently he hit the climbing headlines for his second ascent
of the desperate Voie Lafaille (M7 A4) a bleak 11-day epic with Ian
Parnell in alpine winter conditions. As a speaker though, his real
gift is to make situations that would have most of us crying with
terror sound not just bearable, but drily and hilariously funny.
Classic moments like the Kirkpatrick microphone-assisted Patagonia
wind effects will live in your memory for ever, though probably not
as long as the epic, tent-shredding Patagonian winter bail-out he
uses them to illustrate, will live in his.
Ultimately words are inadequate to describe a Kirtkpartick
lecture, you just have to go along and see for yourself.
