Mick on the summit of Sulamar - tax gathering put to one side for a bit.

The nice people at Berghaus tell us that there are still a few tickets left for the Mick Fowler shows at Newcastle and Edinburgh on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 February respectively - that's tomorrow at the time of writing.

The elite climber, is set to host a Berghaus Adventure Tour lecture at Gateshead College on Friday evening, and then at the University of Edinburgh, St Celliah’s Hall, on Saturday. The shows have had to be rescheduled due to extreme weather and as a result both advance tickets and on the door admission should be feasible. Mick's an entertaining speaker and will be talking about both his long climbing career - he was famously voted 'the mountaineers' mountaineer' in the Observer a few years back - and in particular, his latest expedition to the Tien Shan.

Part of the Berghaus team of elite athletes, Mick has been a leading climbing adventurer for over 30 years after being introduced to rock climbing and mountaineering by his father in his early teens. Often referred to as 'the climbing taxman', a reference to his longstanding job with the Inland Revenue, highlights of his career include pioneering 'ice climbing' on the chalk cliffs of Dover and a series of legendary weekend 'commutes' from London to winter climb in Scotland.

He will also regale audiences with tales of his most recent major expedition which took him to the north side of the Xuelian massif in the Chinese Tien Shan range.  Tien Shan has been off limits for many years but Mick managed to secure permits from the Chinese authorities for a four week visit during August and September last year and is only the third mountaineering expedition ever to visit the area.

Doors open at 7.30pm at both venues, with the show starting at 8.00pm.  Tickets are £10 each; they will be available on the door, but can still be booked in advance by visiting www.berghausadventuretour.com or calling Planet Fear on 01768 774493.
