Just a very quick, very last minute plug for the very unique
Andy Kirkpatrick, without question the most entertaining live
mountaineering speaker out there, who is making an appearance for
charity tnight, Friday, in Ambleside and wants to sell
some more tickets!
Andy's lecture 'White Horizon' kicks off at 7.30 pm at
St Martin's College and covers his recent groundbreaking 600km
journey across Greenland as well as recent climbing trips to Alaska
and elsewhere in the US - astonishingly Andy's now climbed
Yosemtite's El Cap more than ten times including a 12-day solo ascent
of the Reticent Wall, one of the hardest big wall routes in the
world.
He's also renowned for his deranged winter expeditions to
Patagonia which are spiced up with temperatures as low as mius 30 C
and the odd 120mph wind. All of which is very impressive, but what
really counts with Andy is his ability to talk about his climbing
experiences in a way that's light years removed from most
mountaineers' dry reminiscences.
The Kirkpatrick road show comes complete with impromptu side
effects, huge buckets of self-deprecation and entertainment with a
capital E. So if you're free tomorrow night and anywhere near
Ambleside, get yourself along.
Start time will be 7.30pm and tickets are available
now, through the Climbers's Shop web
site, in store or on the door on the night (subject to
availability). Ticket prices are £5. There is also a free
raffle with various outdoor kit prizes including La Sportiva Boots.

I won't get there tonight, but for anyone who might, I've seen him a couple of times and he is very entertaining - and very different from your typical Bonninigton / Hinkes lecture style... ...so get along there :) Edit: and I'm not a climber, but it doesn't much matter - he's entertaining anyway.
